The Mumbai Metro is making significant progress! Following the announcement of operations for phase 2 of Line 3 (Aqua Line), which connects BKC to Worli and includes stops at Dharavi, Shitaladevi Temple, Dadar, Siddhivinayak Temple, Worli, and Acharya Atre Chowk, there’s more exciting news. After a delay of four years, the much-anticipated Mumbai Metro Line 2B is ready for its trial run. On Sunday, 13th April, the project marked a key development as a 5.4-km section between Diamond Garden in Chembur and Mandale in Mankhurd was live-charged. This indicates that the overhead wires are now operational. Officials have announced that the first train trials on this route are set to begin on April 16.
The Metro Line 2B, referred to as the Yellow Line, will connect D N Nagar in Andheri with Mandale in Mankhurd. Official trial operations are set to commence on a 5.3-kilometer segment from Mandale to Diamond Garden starting April 16. By December 2025, the line is expected to be partially open to the public. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), which oversees this project, will initially perform internal trials followed by necessary evaluations from the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) and the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS). The anticipated public opening for the initial stretch could occur a few months later, contingent on acquiring all necessary certifications.
This first phase will include five stations: Diamond Garden, Shivaji Chowk, BSNL Metro, Mankhurd, and Mandale, enhancing east-west connectivity throughout Mumbai significantly.
