Australia Eases Travel Warnings For Some Middle Eastern Nations After US-Iran Deal

The “do not travel” advisory by Australia has been lowered now, as announced by the Foreign Minister of Australia, Penny Wong. The travel warnings have been lowered on Wednesday for the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and Israel. This decision was taken after Iran and the U.S. reached an interim deal to end the war. The advisory has now moved to “reconsider your need to travel” to these countries. This is because the security situation might deteriorate with little warning.

Australia Relaxes Travel Warnings For Several Middle Eastern Nations

The removal of the “do not travel” travel warning by Australian authorities is surely a positive sign for the Gulf countries. Even after the downgrade of the travel warning, the foreign minister still asked the citizens to avoid non-essential travel to these countries.

She added that the security situation in the Middle East can rapidly change without any assessments, but the current assessments show that the situation has improved enough to support the change in travel guidelines. The decision comes after the US-Iran agreement, which has lowered concerns over regional security tensions.

The change means that the Australian travellers can now again transit through destinations like Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE, and Bahrain without invalidating the travel insurance. This restriction had actually forced many passengers to avoid travelling to Gulf countries in recent months.

A Positive Sign For Gulf Airlines

The lowering of the travel warning is positive for Gulf airlines like Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways and Emirates. The reason is that they carried more than half of all passengers flying to the Pacific Islands, New Zealand and Australia from Europe. This is before the war began in the month of February, as per the aviation data firm Cirium.

It eases travel insurance worries and helps rebuild confidence in the region as a top long-haul transit hub.

The previous “do not travel” warning had more practical consequences for many Australians beyond concerns related to safety. Most travel insurance policies do not provide cover for destinations that have the highest level of travel warning by the government.
