The Department of Home Affairs, which manages Australian visa operations, will notify applicants directly or through their authorized agents via email if biometric submission is necessary. “Depending on their individual circumstances, applicants may be asked to attend one of 16 Australian Biometrics Collection Centres across India, managed by VFS Global, or may be eligible to use the Australian Immi App,” the high commission stated.

Biometric Verification To Protect Legitimate Applications

The expansion of biometric programs will help “protect applicants while supporting the strong movement of people” between Australia and India, according to official statements. Biometrics provide a reliable way to verify a person’s identity, helping to protect legitimate applicants from identity misuse, reduce fraud, and strengthen the integrity of Australia’s migration system.

Applicants should follow only the instructions issued by the Department of Home Affairs and use official websites when arranging biometric collection. The government has assured that biometric collection will be under Australian legislation and local laws, with privacy and data protection safeguards in place. For Indian travelers planning a trip to Australia, the key takeaway is to watch for latest updates from the Department of Home Affairs after submitting a visa application.
