Delhi Metro: Public Transport Over Private Vehicles
Delhi Metro has begun 20 extra trips from October 22, 2026, which will operate on weekdays from Monday to Friday. The decision to bring in additional services was announced with the aim of encouraging more and more people to take up public transport instead of their private vehicles.
For passengers who frequently use the metro, this move means a slight increase in train frequency. This move was announced in an X post by DMRC on October 21, 2026.
DMRC also mentioned that it will step up all its anti-pollution drives at its construction sites and the areas around. This includes removing dust from the surrounding road, reducing dust inside the sites, and clearing garbage from road medians as well as footpaths.
The DMRC engineers will also inspect the nearby roads and construction sites. The inspection will include checking if the wheel-wash facilities for vehicles that leave the sites are working and that the construction materials are properly covered.
The corporation has also installed over 250 anti-smog guns at construction sites, office buildings, and stations. The Environment Department carries out daily inspections in order to ensure compliance with environmental norms.

About GRAP-I Delhi-NCR
On October 21, the Commission of Air Quality Management (CAQM) invoked GRAP-I across Delhi-NCR. This enforcement came after the city’s air quality slipped into the poor category after Dussehra celebrations. As per the Central Pollution Control Board, Delhi recorded an AQI of 238 on Wednesday, October 21. Stage 1 comes into effect when the AQI falls between 201 and 300.
Under Grap Stage I, dust control measures are mandatory at demolition and construction sites. Also, projects that cover more than 500 sqm require an approved dust management plan. Coal and firewood ovens or grills are barred in commercial kitchens and eateries. Diesel generators are restricted to emergency and essential services.
