Chennai Metro Yellow Line Route
The Yellow Line’s inaugural passenger services began on October 11, with full operations starting the next day. Over 25,474 passenger journeys were recorded in the first five hours alone. It will be launched in phases, and Phase 1 was inaugurated at night. While Phase 1 will connect Poonamallee Pass and Vadapalani, the other phase is gradually moving toward completion and will connect Vadapalani to Lighthouse.
INR 46 billion is the cost of the entire Yellow Line project. It will be connected with the existing metro network at Vadapalani.
The end-to-end journey between Poonamallee Pass and Vadapalani (11-station stretch) will take approximately 30 minutes. This slashes the commute that often takes about 90 minutes by road during peak hours.

The amount of the fare will depend on the number of zones crossed. All frequent commuters who use the official smart card or Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) can save 20% on all journeys.
There are tourist cards as well, which are available for unlimited single-day travel at INR 250. The other option is a 3-day tourist pass for INR 550. Remember that both of these cards require an INR 60 refundable deposit.
If you wish to buy tickets digitally, that can also be done. You can purchase the tickets instantly via the official CMRL mobile application. You can also opt for QR code tokens at station counters or WhatsApp ticketing portals.

Commuters can switch easily at Vadapalani to connect with the Green Line. The Green Line runs towards Chennai Central and St. Thomas Mount. This seamlessly opens access to the rest of the metro grid for passengers.
This line features state-of-the-art driverless-capable trainsets. They are equipped with automated signaling, modern safety features, and also have a dedicated space for the comfort of passengers.
The Yellow Line links Poonamallee and Porur to Vadapalani, which has reduced travel friction along the Arcot Road corridor. This has benefited a lot of daily commuters by saving time and effort.
It features a unique 3.7 km double-decker viaduct section. This means that a two-tier elevated concrete bridge structure is built. Here, two separate levels of metro tracks are stacked vertically on the same set of single support pillars.
