Having visited many of the cities on this list, I have realized that the places I remember most are rarely just the ones with the biggest attractions. Japan is a perfect example. When I visited in April 2026, Tokyo’s sheer scale, Kyoto’s traditional side, and Osaka’s food and energy made each city feel like a completely different trip. Then you have cities like Cape Town, where the landscape changes the experience altogether. Some of my best travel memories have come from simply walking around, finding somewhere unexpected to eat, getting slightly lost, or realizing that the neighborhood I had barely planned for was more fun than the famous attraction on my itinerary. That is ultimately how I think an “attractive” city should be judged.
