Rains have returned to Mumbai, and how. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow alert for Mumbai and surrounding areas like Thane and Palghar, as well as Raigad. The return of the rains has also brought about a drop in temperature. This means that Mumbaikars will experience some respite from the humid heat that plagued the city for the last few days. IMD Issues Yellow Alert In Mumbai Today
Following the resumption of rains in Mumbai on Tuesday, August 11, the IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for the city and for the areas around the city.
As per stats recorded in Santacruz, June saw a total of 526.3 mm of rainfall, July saw 919.9 mm, and so far, August has witnessed 560.8 mm. This means that just this first half of August saw more rain than the entire month of June.
On Tuesday, the observatory in Santacruz recorded 44 mm of rain between 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM. Colaba, on the other hand, received 24.4 mm of rain. Mumbai rains today have already reached 20 mm.

Why Has The Rainfall Increased Recently?
According to weather experts, the recent spell of rains was brought on by a powerful monsoon rush of westerly winds laden with moisture. There is also a cyclonic formation over southwest Rajasthan that has directed the westerly winds towards South Konkan.
This has subsequently increased the flow of moisture into Maharashtra. These explanations were given by Mahesh Palawat of Skymet Weather Services. It is important to note, however, that as per the weather expert, this heavy spell of rains is unlikely to continue for long.
