srisailam temple from hyderabad

The Srisailam Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple is located atop the flat-topped Nallamala Hills in Andhra Pradesh’s Nandyal district. It is one of the most significant Hindu shrines in India and Indian mythology. The reason behind this is that the temple is the only temple in India where one of the 18 Maha Shakti Peethas and one of the 12 Jyotirlingas coexist under one roof. This marks the divine co-existence of the cosmic energies of Shiva (masculine energy) and Shakti (feminine energy).

For travelers and residents in Hyderabad, Srisailam is the ultimate spiritual escape and road-trip destination. It is located about 230 km from Hyderabad, making it perfect for both a one-day pilgrimage and a relaxed weekend getaway. Hence, here we have a complete Srisailam temple guide from Hyderabad to help you with timings, darshan, dress code, and more.

About Srisailam Temple

The temple houses Mallikarjuna Swamy and Bhramaramba Devi together. Mallikarjuna Swamy is the self-manifested Swayambhi Lingam, which represents Lord Shiva. It is the second of the twelve sacred Jyotirlingas.

Standing right next to Lord Shiva here is Goddess Parvati, also known as Bhramaramba Devi. It is the 6th of the 18 Maha Shakti Peethas and, according to a legend, the neck of Goddess Sati fell here. The name Bhramaramba Devi comes from the belief that she took the form of a bee to slay the demon Mahishasura.
