The Ritual Of 22 Kund Bath
The spiritual essence of visiting the Rameswaram temple is the Theertha Snanam. It is a purification ritual where devotees bathe in 22 holy wells or kunds which are located in the temple complex. According to the legend of Ramayana, these wells actually represent the 22 arrows from the quiver of Lord Rama. The devotees must follow the process of bathing.
The Bathing Process:
Step 1
The bathing process begins at the sea beach which is located right outside the temple’s East Gate. Every devotee must visit this beach and take a brief holy dip in the sea.
Step 2
Walk into the temple premises and then purchase the 22 Theertham ticket for INR 25.
Step 3
Now follow the designated numbered arrows to visit one temple after the other. A temple attendant will help you draw fresh water from the well and pour it over your head.
Step 4
