Heavy pre-monsoon showers lashed Mumbai on the morning of Wednesday, June 3, 2026, and, once again, Mumbaikars were faced with waterlogging, traffic woes, and roads being shut – a rigmarole that the city is all too familiar with during the rainy season. Today, the city saw waterlogging in the suburban area of Andheri. Although the rain brought a welcome relief from the heat and humidity of the last few days, it also caused significant woes to commuters.

Owing to the heavy rain, the subway in Andheri, which is a major transit point, was forced to shut down. Vehicular traffic on the subway ceased from 7:40 AM due to stormwater accumulation. However, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) immediately deployed pumps to drain the stormwater.

Consequently, the subway was reopened by 8:24 AM. However, even though the subway was reopened, the traffic jams and slow vehicular movement it caused could be felt along the Western Express Highway (WEH) and the linking roads.

When Will Monsoon Officially Arrive In Mumbai?
The rain witnessed today is part of the pre-monsoon showers. Mumbai rains are officially slated to begin on June 10, 2026, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Further, owing to enduring El Niño conditions over the Pacific, IMD has also predicted below-average rainfall in India this year.

The Western Suburbs received the highest volume of pre-monsoon showers, averaging 9.84 mm across the zone. Versova received 96mm of rain, Vile Parle 52 mm of rain, Andheri East got 49 mm of rain, Andheri West got 46 mm of rain, and Santacruz got 30 mm of rain. Island City and Chembur also received 0.96 mm and 12 mm of rain, respectively.

Even though IMD has warned of below-average rainfall in India this year, it doesn’t seem like Mumbai’s rainfall blues will ease. Every year, citizens face the same flooding, the same delay of trains, and the same traffic jams. These situations are bound to cause significant inconvenience to commuters.
