In what is soon to be one of Uttar Pradesh’s most significant infrastructure projects, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced the ambitious Shamli-Gorakhpur Expressway. This particular project will link two key cities in UP, Shamli and Gorakhpur. In addition to these cities, it will also ease connectivity to nearby regions like Bihar. The Shamli-Gorakhpur Expressway is a greenfield expressway that stretches across 742 kilometers. The estimated cost of this project is INR 645 Crores, and it will be developed by the NHAI. It will start near the Haryana border in Shamli, passing through the Haridwar region in Uttarakhand, and ending at Kushinagar near the Bihar border.

Which Districts Does It Cover?
The expressway will pass through more than 17 districts, which include Bahraich, Balrampur, Bareilly, Bijnor, Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Lakhimpur Kheri, Moradabad, Muzaffarnagar, Pilibhit, Rampur, Saharanpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Shahjahanpur, Shamli, Shravasti, and Sitapur.
NCR To Nepal In Eight Hours And Other Details
The main carriageway of this project will have four lanes. However, in areas where it is a bridge or a flyover, it will have six lanes. As of now, the project is in the land acquisition phase and is slated to be operational by the end of 2030. This project will also aid connectivity between Delhi NCR and Nepal.

How Does It Cut Travel Time To Nepal?
The expressway ends near the Bihar border at Kushinagar. From there, the expressway links up to the established routes that lead to the Sunauli Border Checkpoint. This is the primary gateway for travel between India and Nepal. Compared to the previous route, the travel time is slashed by almost half.
