Gujarat Governor Cuts Convoy, Choppers To Save Fuel After PM’s Appeal

In a direct response to PM Modi’s appeal to the nation in Hyderabad on May 10, 2026, the Gujarat governor has taken measures to save fuel and energy. A move that is being dubbed “Gujarat Lok Bhavan Initiative”, Acharya Devvrat has traded his helicopters for ST buses and has reduced his convoy. These voluntary steps are being undertaken amid the ongoing energy crisis in West Asia. In addition to this, he’s also passed a few other mandates in compliance with the PM’s appeal.

Gujarat Governor Reduces His Convoy To Save Fuel

The governor has decided to ground all his helicopters and cease air travel within the state. This is at least until global petroleum prices stabilize. In order to travel within the state, the governor is planning to travel on the State Transport (ST) public buses.

He has also insisted on a reduction in his security convoy to an absolute functional minimum.

Following are a few other measures that the governor has ordered to save fuel.

Universities To Observe “Combustion Free Days”

As the Chancellor of all state universities, the governor has issued a mandate to all vice chancellors stating that the institutions must now observe “combustion-free days”. Once a week, no internal combustion engine vehicles should be used. Students and staff must use cycles or EVs for their transportation.

Reduction In Edible Oil In Raj Bhavan

The governor has also mandated that there be a 10% reduction in the use of edible oil in the administrative mess and kitchen. Additionally, a total ban on the unnecessary use of vehicles by the staff for government tasks has also been issued.
