On May 3, 2026, one of the most historic and ambitious expansions of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was announced. The Delhi Metro Phase-V expansion will see a whopping INR 48,000 crore in investment and will introduce 65 new stations that will bridge critical gaps between the outskirts and the city center. The expansion was announced on the 32nd Foundation Day by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. The telos of this expansion is to decentralize the transit system and move connectivity to Narela, Mithapur, and Najafgarh.

ToggleDelhi Metro Phase-V Expansion
Phase 5 (B) of the DMRC expansion will stretch across 97 km. It will consist of a total of seven routes. Out of these, there are four Priority Corridors that have been fast-tracked and are set for completion by 2029. They are: –
Secretariat to Kishangarh: 16-km stretch, mostly underground. It will connect JNU, New Moti Bagh, and RK Puram.
Dhansa to Nangloi: Connecting the Grey Line to the Green Line, and serving Najafgarh and Baprola.
Badli to Narela: Yellow line extension serving Narela industrial area (DSIIDC)
Kirti Nagar to Palam: Gives direct access to Mayapuri Industrial Area and Sagarpur.
The other three routes that are a part of the expansion and will be completed in the future are: –
Jorbagh to Mithapur: An independent corridor nearly 17 km long that will connect Lodhi Colony to the Delhi-Haryana border at Mithapur.
Shastri Park to Mayur Vihar: It will pass through Gandhi Nagar market and Geeta Colony.
Keshavpuram to Rohini Sector 34: Geared to cater to Rohini residents and the students of DTU.
Cost Of Project And Other Details
The budget for this ambitious project is INR 48,204.56 crore. Once completed, it is expected to boost real estate in areas like Narela and Najafgarh that are viewed as “metro-dry zones”.
The project will also face considerable challenges in its construction, as it will build an underground tunnel in Central Delhi that is 13.7 km long. It will also have an elevated route that is cable-stayed or a viaduct in the East.
