Yamunti and Gangotri will open from April 19, Kedarnath will open from April 22, while Badrinath will open from April 23. The website also announced that Hemkund Sahib will open to the public starting May 23, 2026.

Best Month For Char Dham 2026

The best time to undertake the Char Dham 2026 depends largely on weather conditions in the Himalayas.

The months of May and June are considered to be ideal because the weather is generally pleasant and routes are fully accessible. As this is the peak pilgrimage season, you can expect larger crowds.

July and August are the months when many regions in the Char Dham circuit receive heavy rainfall. In many areas of the Garhwal Himalayas, these months often see heavy rainfall, landslides, and sudden road blockages.

September and October are also good months for visiting the Char Dham circuit. These are the months when the monsoon has passed and skies are clearer. During this period, there are relatively fewer pilgrims.

Char Dham Yatra 2026 New Updates

Mandatory Health Screening:

A key aspect of the new Char Dham Yatra 2026 is the new mandatory health screening process for participants.

Pilgrims will be required to obtain fitness certificates and undergo medical evaluations to confirm their readiness for the journey. Special attention will be given to older adults and individuals with pre-existing health conditions. Authorities plan to enhance emergency response measures and provide additional medical assistance along the pilgrimage route to facilitate a smooth and safe experience for all pilgrims.

The Uttarakhand government has set up 31 health check-up centers and more than 20 Medical Relief Posts (MRPs) along popular trekking routes. Travelers may need to obtain a medical fitness certificate or undergo immediate health screening to confirm that they are physically able to cope with low oxygen levels at altitudes beyond 10,000 feet.

Vehicles Banned After 10 PM:

The State Transport Authority of Uttarakhand has also enforced a ban on vehicles on Char Dham routes post 10 PM. Vehicles can now only operate from 4 AM to 10 PM. All drivers must complete special training to navigate hilly areas.

Phones Banned At Kedarnath Temple:

Authorities have introduced new regulations, including a complete ban on mobile phones, photography, and videography within the temple area. This is to maintain the sanctity of the and ensure peace and order in the temple premises.

Daily Caps On Darshan:

To prevent overcrowding, authorities had set a daily limit on the number of pilgrims allowed at each shrine. However, the government has scrapped the daily cap on devotees visiting the shrines. It is advised to book your slots at least 30 to 45 days in advance.

Panchagavya Rule For Gangotri:

While Yamunotri will remain open for visitors, Gangotri authorities have issued a new mandate for visitors. As per the new mandate, visitors will be required to mandatorily consume ‘panchagavya’ – a mixture of cow urine, dung, ghee, milk, and curd. The move has been aimed at “weeding out non-believers” as per Gangotri Mandir Samiti chairperson Dharmendra Semwal.
