Mumbai Metro 4 Project Status
As of September 2025, the trial runs on the Gaimukh-Vijay Garden stretch have been completed, with the technical inspection and track testing conducted using trains built by the Larsen & Toubro-Alstom partnership.
The corridor is being constructed in three phases:
- Phase 1: Gaimukh to Cadbury Junction (10.5 km, 10 stations), (Cadbury Junction, Majiwada, Kapurbawdi, Manpada, Tikuji-ni-Wadi, Dongripada, Vijay Garden, Kasarvadavali, Gowniwada (Gavhanpada), and Gaimukh). It is expected to be operational by April 2026, with four stations ready by December 2025.
- Phase 2: Cadbury to Gandhi Nagar (11 km, 11 stations), (Cadbury Junction, Thane Teen Haath Naka, RTO Thane, Mahapalika Marg, Naval Housing, Bhandup Mahapalika, Bhandup Metro, Shangrila, Sonapur, Mulund Fire Station, and Gandhi Nagar). It is targeted for completion by October 2026.
- Phase 3: Gandhi Nagar to Wadala (12 km, 11 stations), (Gandhi Nagar, Naval Housing, Bhandup Mahapalika, Bhandup Metro, Shangrila, Dr Hedgewar Chowk, Mulund Fire Station, Maharana Pratap Chowk, Thane Teen Haath Naka, RTO Thane, and Wadala TT). It is expected to be finished by October 2027.
This line’s eventual connection with Metro Line 11 (Wadala–CSMT) will result in a continuous 58-km network. This will make it the country’s longest elevated metro corridor and a milestone for urban mobility in Maharashtra.
Mumbai Metro 4 Connectivity
Metro Line 4 will drastically reduce travel time between Thane and South Mumbai, offering up to 75% travel time savings depending on road conditions.
It is expected to serve over 21 lakh (2.1 million) passengers daily once fully functional, significantly reducing congestion on existing transport routes.
The Green Line route runs along some of the most bustling and critical residential, commercial, and business areas of Mumbai, providing significant urban mobility relief for daily commuters
This route is designed to meet future demands, with seamless operational integration planned with its 2.7-km extension (Line 4A) to Gaimukh, future Lines 10 and 11, and other key lines under the Mumbai Metro Master Plan.
