Mumbai Ganpati Visarjan: How Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Is Preparing For The Festival
In 2025, the BMC has set up 70 natural immersion points and 290 artificial ponds across Mumbai. The civic body has urged citizens to prefer artificial ponds for immersion over natural water bodies to reduce the environmental impact of idols and the resultant water pollution.
The BMC has also launched a dedicated link on their official website and QR codes to help devotees locate the nearest artificial pond to their home.
You can find details of the same on the official BMC WhatsApp chatbot on 8999-22-8999. This will make locating artificial ponds easier and in turn contribute to lesser water pollution and negative environmental impact.
Mumbai Fire Brigade teams will also remain on standby for emergencies on September 6, 2025. Additionally, nearly 10,000 officials and staff will remain deployed across immersion spots to ensure a safe, peaceful, and efficient Mumbai ganpati visarjan ceremony.
The Mumbai Police, along with the BMC, has appealed citizens to maintain decorum and celebrate the visarjan peacefully.
Here are key highlights of the safety measures taken to ensure utmost safety and efficiency on the day of the Mumbai ganpati visarjan:
- 2,178 lifeguards and 56 motorboats at beaches for rescue support
- 1,175 steel plates placed on beaches to prevent vehicles from sinking into the sand
- 66 German rafts for immersing smaller idols
- 42 cranes and 287 welcome booths at major visarjan points
- 245 control rooms and 129 watchtowers for real-time monitoring

Mumbai Ganpati Visarjan Lalbaugcha Raja: Notice Issued By Maharashtra Human Rights Commission
Lalbaugcha Raja is revered across the city and is one of the oldest idols in Mumbai. Over the years, the Lalbaugcha Raja pandal attracts millions of devotees from all over the world in a span of 11 days.
However, in a recent few years, the pandal has grabbed headlines for alleged manhandling of devotees during the darshan. Many have also complained that the pandal favors celebrity and VIP culture, allowing influential personalities to enjoy the darshan while commoners suffocate and wait for hours.
In 2025 as well, this is no exception. The Maharashtra Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has issued an official notice to the pandal’s Secretary, the State Chief Secretary, BMC Commissioner, as well as the Mumbai Police Commissioner.
The MHRC directed them to explore alternative arrangements to prevent human rights violation during Ganeshotsav.
While VIP names and A-listers receive privileged darshan at their own comfort, common people, including women, children, and the elderly, are subjected to ill-treatment by the pandal volunteers and staff, as per the complaint.
Many instances of manhandling devotees have gone viral on the internet before as well, however, no legal action has been taken yet.
According to the complaint, the crowd management in this pandal remains unsatisfactory and could lead to an unfortunate stampede and injury to devotees.
It also highlighted how the pandal lacks basic civic amenities and security for millions of devotees who stand in queues for hours.
MHRC has questioned pandal authorities why they continue to rely on volunteers and bodyguards who manhandle and sometimes even injure devotees instead of deploying trained personnel capable of respectfully controlling the crowd.
Tips For Attending Mumbai Ganpati Visarjan
- Most roads, especially those around famous pandals are either closed for traffic or are open only for a limited time. Plan your travel carefully!
- If you’re attending Ganpati visarjan of famous pandals, we recommend using public transport like trains and buses to reach these pandals or viewing locations. Avoid getting your own vehicle as there are high chances of your vehicle getting stuck in endless traffic congestion.
- If you’re not used to large crowds or don’t know much about traveling within Mumbai, avoid attending a visarjan ceremony alone. Bring along a family member or a friend who knows how to navigate within the city.
- Note that commoners (those not a part of pandal associations) are not given entry inside Girgaon Chowpatty post evening on the day of the visarjan. This is to prevent overcrowding on the chowpatty.
- Also, many chowpatties deploy jammers for security reasons, so if you’re visiting these places with your friends, plan a common meeting spot in advance.
- Keep your location service on and share your live location to your close friends and family for additional safety.
- If you’re visiting a large water body like the chowpatties or beaches in Mumbai on visarjan day, do not steer too close to the water.
- Carry a water bottle, a power bank, and an umbrella without fail. Keep your backpack close to your body and avoid wearing valuables like jewelry and watches.
