The Vande Bharat train, which made its debut in February 2019, has transformed Indian Railways as the first semi-high-speed train in the country. And now, we have some exciting news for you! During a public gathering in Gujarat on Sunday (August 3), Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the sleeper train will be launched in September 2025.
This new addition aims to enhance the comfort, speed, and modernity of train travel. Minister Vaishnaw highlighted that the sleeper train will work alongside services like Namo Bharat and Amrit Bharat, as part of a larger initiative to modernize Indian Railways.
The Vande Bharat Sleeper train is being built by BEML (Bharat Earth Movers Limited) with technology support from the Integral Coach Factory (ICF). Once operational, the sleeper Vande Bharat train will feature 16 coaches, including AC First Class, AC 2-Tier, and AC 3-Tier options. It will have the capability to reach speeds of 180 km/h.

Sleeper Vande Bharat Train Will Come With USB-Integrated Reading Light And More
The Vande Bharat Sleeper train has been designed with a focus on enhancing passenger comfort and convenience, boasting a variety of upgraded and innovative features.
Passengers can expect real-time information systems, USB-integrated reading lights, and enhanced security measures including CCTV. Additionally, the train will have modular pantries for food service, hot-water showers available in First AC compartments, and accessible toilets and berths for individuals with disabilities. Other conveniences include touch-free bio-vacuum toilets, Talk-Back Units for easy communication with train staff, and sensor-activated doors that connect different areas of the train.
Moreover, the Vande Bharat Sleeper train will comprise advanced safety measures to ensure passenger security. These features will include an emergency braking system, the “Kavach” anti-collision technology, and anti-climbing mechanisms to enhance overall safety.
While the specific routes for the Vande Bharat Sleeper train are still being finalized, various potential connections are being considered. Some of the likely routes include links from New Delhi to key cities such as Howrah, Mumbai, Pune, and Secunderabad, among others.
