On the other hand, Line 2A connects D. N. Nagar in Andheri to Dahisar. Both of these metro lines transport lakhs of passengers on a daily basis and help connect Mumbai’s suburbs with the city’s major financial and technological centers.

In what is a historic move, the Mumbai Metro Lines 7 and 2A recorded a massive ridership of 3,01,127 on July 8, 2025. This number is currently the highest single-day number of passengers commuting on these lines! By achieving this number, the city demonstrated the enormous volume of people who daily travel via the metro for their livelihood.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited’s official handle stated, “Maha Mumbai Metro hit 3 Lakh passenger journeys in a day. Proof that progress is picking up speed!” It went on to mention the historic ridership that showed “what belief in modern, green transport looks like”.

Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, IAS, Metropolitan Commissioner, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and Chairman expressed his joy at this historic milestone, thanking the people of Mumbai and congratulating his team for making it possible.

The day also saw record WhatsApp ticketing as more than 62,000 Mumbaikars opted for this technologically-inclined greener alternative to conventional paper-based ticketing. This signals towards a transformation in the way Mumbaikars travel – with technology now being involved in every part of their daily commute.

MMRDA’s New Proposal: Fare Fixation Committee For Lines 7 And 2A

Meanwhile, MMRDA proposed the formation of a Fare Fixation Committee (FFC) for Mumbai Metro Lines 7 and 2A in an official statement released on May 22, 2025. According to the statement, MMRDA has proposed the formation of  FFC under Sections 33 and 34 (I) of the Metro Railways (Operations and Maintenance) Act, 2002.

This step will specifically pertain to the Lines 7 and 2A of the Mumbai Metro.

Under the FFC, the committee will be tasked with reviewing and recommending fare structures for commuters using these two lines. The step is being undertaken to ensure a fair, transparent, and lawful enactment of fare decisions. However, MMRDA has also further clarified that no immediate fare change will take place.
