About Amarnath Yatra 2025
The Amarnath Yatra 2025 will commence on July 3, 2025 and end on August 9, 2025. Amarnath Cave, the location where the pilgrimage ends, is located at an altitude of 12,756 ft. It is home to a natural stalagmite formation that resembles a shivalingam – the holy symbol associated with Lord Shiva.
During this 30 to 45-day period, the stalagmite formation reaches its peak as summer melts the ice – it also coincides with the holy month of Shravan.
It is a month of holy significance in Hinduism as practicing Hindus observe religious fasts and engage in meditation, associated with Lord Shiva.
In Hindu mythology, it is in the month of Shravan that the churning of the great cosmic ocean took place and a deadly poison emerged as a result.
Lord Shiva consumed this poison to save humankind and the other gods from the effects of this poison. Devotees partake in numerous pilgrimages such as the Amarnath Yatra in the month of Shravan. The stalagmite formation slowly starts waning after this brief one-month period.
