And if you’re looking for some convenience and ways to beat the congestion, here’s some exciting news: the Mumbai Metro-3 Aqua Line, launched on October 5, 2024, has reached a significant milestone by completing the trials till Cuffe Parade station. This marks a substantial step towards finishing the cityβs first underground metro line. Cuffe Parade is the final stop on the 33.5-km Metro-3, also known as the Aqua line.
The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share this joyous update and added, “The historic journey of Mumbai Metro-3! Mumbai’s first underground metro reached a significant milestone today. The Aqua Line i.e. Metro-3 train successfully entered Cuffe Parade station. Major progress in the Acharya Atre Chowk to Cuffe Parade section, covering a 10.99 km stretch. The entire Aqua Line will be operational by July 2025.”

Mumbai Metro Line 3 Will Have 3 Phases
Metro Line 3 in Mumbai will be fully operational by July 2025, marking the city’s first underground metro line. The initial phase, which runs from Aarey JVLR to the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), spans 12.69 kilometers and opened in October 2024. The stations in this first phase include BKC, Bandra Colony, Santacruz, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) Terminal 1, Sahar Road, CSMIA Terminal 2, Marol Naka, Andheri, SEEPZ, and Aarey Colony JVLR, with the latter being the only station above ground.
Now, the second phase will extend from BKC to Worli and will feature the following stations: Dharavi, Shitaladevi Temple, Dadar, Siddhivinayak Temple, Worli, and Acharya Atre Chowk.
Additionally, the third phase will connect Worli to Cuffe Parade, incorporating stations such as Science Museum, Mahalaxmi, Mumbai Central, Grant Road, Girgaon, Kalbadevi, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Hutatma Chowk, Churchgate, Vidhan Bhavan, and Cuffe Parade.
Once fully operational, the Metro-3 line will connect major areas of Mumbai through 27 stations, of which 26 will be underground. Stay tuned for more updates on Mumbai Metro.
