Traveling between cities is set to become faster with the construction of the Mumbai-Delhi Expressway. This expressway, being built in phases, has made significant progress, particularly with the completion of the Kota tunnel, which is now nearing its final stage. Once opened, this new route will save commuters a substantial amount of time, with the travel duration from Gurugram to Vadodara decreasing from 20-22 hours to just 10 hours.
Special care has been taken to protect local wildlife around the tunnel in Rajasthan, particularly near the Mukundra Tiger Reserve. The design and construction of the tunnel prioritize the safety of animals, ensuring minimal disturbance to their habitat.
The expressway will connect important regions of Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra to Delhi and is expected to cost around Rs 1 lakh crore. Initially, the road will feature eight lanes, allowing vehicles to travel at speeds of up to 120 km/h, with the potential to expand to twelve lanes over time if needed.
Gurugram To Vadodara Is A Part Of Mumbai-Delhi Expressway Project
The journey from Gurugram To Vadodara will begin at Alipur village near Sohna, which serves as the main entry point for vehicles from Delhi and nearby areas. The open stretch will be – from Gurugram to Dausa. This segment is fully operational, significantly reducing travel time between Delhi NCR and eastern Rajasthan for smoother rides.
The expressway continues through Rajasthan toward Kota and includes a 4-km-long tunnel near Mukundra Hills, ensuring a safer transit. Following the tunnel, the expressway connects directly to Vadodara, minimizing travel time and avoiding congested roads. Finally, the expressway links Vadodara with Delhi NCR, enhancing road travel’s speed, safety, and efficiency.
Overall, the expressway will cut travel time between the national capital and the financial hub, with 1,156 km of the 1,386 km project already completed. Although the deadline has shifted to October 2025, it will be interesting to see when the expressway finally opens to the public.
