Delhi is not just famous for its delectable food and historic sites; it also boasts an impressive metro system that offers extensive connectivity. The Delhi Metro, recognized as one of the oldest metro networks in India, runs on ten color-coded lines across 289 stations, covering a sprawling 395 kilometers. And if you use the Delhi Metro daily, we have some exciting news for you! You can now purchase Delhi Metro tickets directly through the Uber app. That’s right! Uber has launched a new feature that enables users to book metro tickets powered by the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), starting with the Delhi Metro.
This new feature streamlines the travel experience, allowing users to plan their routes, buy QR-based tickets, and get live updates, all without leaving the Uber app. Additionally, you can request an Uber ride to the metro station, making public transport even more accessible.
Delhi Metro Tickets & Cabs – All Can Be Booked Using One App – UBER
The introduction of this feature stems from a memorandum of understanding signed in 2024 during CEO Dara Khosrowshahi’s visit to India, aimed at cooperating with ONDC to promote digital public services. By 2025, Uber plans to introduce metro ticketing in three more cities across India.
Key features include the ability to purchase QR-based tickets directly from the app, eliminating the need to queue, and facilitating payments through UPI, which simplifies the ticket-buying process. According to Uber India’s Chief Technology Officer, Praveen Neppalli Naga, this integration of various transport options – including Moto, Auto, Cars, Shuttles, Bikes, and Metros – offers a comprehensive solution, making it much easier for passengers to access a range of services on a single platform.
