The Vande Bharat Express, launched in 2019, is India’s first fully indigenous semi-high-speed train and is set to transform train travel once again. How, you may wonder? Well, the Indian Railways is all set to introduce India’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper Express, designed specifically for enhanced comfort during journeys. This new service will reportedly connect Delhi and Patna via Prayagraj in approximately 11.5 hours.
As reported by CNBC, the launch of this train is anticipated ahead of Diwali in 2025. The New Delhi to Patna route is one of the busiest in India and often faces overcrowding, particularly during festive seasons when thousands of passengers travel between Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and the national capital. The introduction of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express is expected to ease the congestion while providing travelers with a faster and more efficient option, thereby improving connectivity for both states.
Vande Bharat Sleeper Express Will Depart From Patna At 8 PM
As per the reports, the train will depart from Patna at 8 PM and arrive in New Delhi at 7:30 AM the following day, significantly cutting down the usual travel duration of 12 to 17 hours to just 11.5 hours. Ticket prices for the new service are likely to be 10-15% higher than those of the Rajdhani Express. The sleeper variant of the Vande Bharat Express will feature sleeper berths rather than the usual chair-car configuration, making it especially suitable for overnight journeys.
Besides this, in terms of features, the train will be equipped with advanced amenities, including CCTV surveillance, LED screens for infotainment, automatic doors with sensors for safe boarding, modern fire safety systems, and on-board announcement facilities. Manufactured using advanced technology from the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) by Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), this train promises to provide a high level of comfort.
