In a move set to make travel even more convenient, the Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi has announced that Indian passport holders can apply for Thailand’s e-visa service starting January 1, 2025. This initiative aims to strengthen Thailand’s position as a top travel destination for Indian tourists and foster closer ties between the two nations.
Thailand to introduce e-visa, and the e-visa service will operate alongside the existing 60-day visa exemption for Indian travelers. This exemption allows entry for tourism and short business visits. It will remain in place until further notice, offering greater flexibility for Indian travelers.
E-Visa Process Details
The new e-visa system will require applicants to submit their visa requests exclusively through the official website. Applications can be lodged directly by individuals or through authorized representatives.
The Embassy has stated that processing will take approximately 14 working days from the date the visa fee receipt is issued. For those using the current visa system, applications submitted via designated visa processing companies will be accepted until December 16, 2024.
The shift to e-visas reflects Thailand’s effort to modernize visa applications while maintaining accessibility during the transition period.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s government announced new debt relief measures to tackle Thailand’s household debt crisis. Experts estimate the country’s debt at $500 billion, making it the highest in Southeast Asia.
As part of the measures, around 1.9 million borrowers will benefit from a three-year suspension of interest payments on loans. This support will cover loans worth 890 billion baht ($26 billion) related to housing, automobiles, and small to medium-sized businesses.
In addition, the government plans to introduce reduced principal installment payments. This step aims to ease the financial strain on borrowers and stabilize the economy.
