What Is Sunburn Festival: Origin, Artists, And Venue Over The Years
For those unversed, Sunburn is an electronic dance music festival held in India, spanning for over three to five days. Sunburn was founded by entrepreneur, National Award-winning creative producer, writer, and director Shailendra Singh.
The festival’s legacy dates back to 2007 at a time when India was not quite well-acquainted with music festivals, especially those involving international artists.
Sunburn changed that, hosting some of the biggest music festivals and bringing a curated lineup of international artists to India.
From Martin Garrix and Wiz Khalifa to Alan Walker and DJ Snake, Sunburn has made immense contributions in bringing such reputed global names to the country. Today, it proudly stands as Asia’s largest music festival.
The festival was held annually in Vagator, Goa from 2007 to 2015, shifting to Pune in 2016. In 2019, the festival returned to Vagator again, with the 2025 edition set to take place in Mumbai, the city that never sleeps.
Sunburn 2025: Why It Shifted From Goa To Mumbai
Sunburn and Goa is an unmistakable, and rather iconic equation that fans of this music festival have recognized over the years. However, the 2025 edition will mark a milestone change in the festival. This year, the festival will not take place in Vagator, Goa but shift its base to the City of Dreams, Mumbai.
While some fans and social media users were clearly disappointed at this venue change, others welcomed it more openly.
A reported survey by the Sunburn Team claims that there has been a growing curiosity amongst fans to experience this festival beyond Goa.
In fact, Sunburn’s official statement reads, “One in two respondents were keen to explore the flagship festival outside of Goa, with a clear preference for Mumbai.”
While Goa remains unmatched when it comes to its laidback lifestyle and more liberal approach towards music and trance fests, Mumbai seems to be on Sunburn’s radar for 2025 (or even the next few editions).
However, Mumbai isn’t completely alien to Sunburn – the city witnessed iconic moments in 2011 and 2013 respectively with Avicii and Swedish House Mafia dropping beats for Sunburn Arena.
Sunburn’s official statement also reads that the brand aims to build its legacy, a feat that will only be possible when the festival continues its journey beyond Goan shores.
Mumbai has long been a city echoing with the sound of electronic music and a city that has supported Sunburn with open arms.
Sunburn 2025 Lineup
Asia’s largest music festival is set for an electrifying artist lineup in 2025. Swedish DJ and record producer Axel Christofer Hedfors, better known as Axwell, is set to drop beats at Sunburn 2025.

Renowned French DJ and producer David Guetta will also be seen headlining the globally renowned music festival. Known for multiple GRAMMY wins, the DJ will bring his MONOLITH Tour to India at the Sunburn 2025 Mumbai on Day 2 of the festival.
Along with these music icons, attendees will witness Sara Landry, a pathbreaking American DJ and producer known for hard techno music.
In 2024, she became the first-ever hard techno artist to perform at the coveted Tomorrowland main stage and is ranked No. 75 on DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJs poll.
Along with artists like David Guetta, Sara Landry, and Axwell, Sunburn 2025 will see prominent Indian names as well. This includes Indo Warehouse’s Kahani and Kunal Merchant, as well as artists like Priyanjana, DJ Aryan, and DJ Ganesh among many others.
