TasteAtlas’ 100 Best Food Regions List

India is not only celebrated for its rich cultural heritage and diversity but also for the incredible variety of delicious foods it offers. From the crispy dosas of the south to the mouthwatering Vada Pav from Maharashtra, each dish carries its own fascinating story. And now, India has strengthened its reputation on the global culinary stage by securing 4 out of 100 positions on Taste Atlas’s ‘100 Best Food Regions in the World’ list. This ranking is based on over 590,000 ratings for nearly 18,912 different foods in their database, showcasing the cuisines that have achieved the highest average scores. Taste Atlas, an online guide to traditional foods and a global food encyclopedia, recently ranked Southern India as the 40th best food region in its list of the 100 Best Food Regions in the World. According to Taste Atlast, the region boasts a variety of must-try dishes, including Karimeen Pollichathu, Hyderabadi Biryani, Masala Dosa, Nethili 65, and Dosa. It also highlighted gourmet producers like Amrut Distilleries and Godawan (spirits), Manam Chocolate and Mason & Co (chocolates), and Third Wave Coffee (coffee beans).

Renowned traditional restaurants in Southern India, like Paragon Restaurant in Kozhikode, Mavalli Tiffin Rooms in Bengaluru, ITC Kohenur in Hyderabad, Brahmin’s Coffee Bar in Bengaluru, and Central Tiffin Room in Bengaluru were also named on the list.

West Bengal ranked 73rd on the list, featuring must-try dishes like Chingri Malai curry, Kathi roll, Murgh rezala, Chicken kathi roll and Gobi manchurian. The best gourmet producers highlighted include Makaibari Tea Estate and Glenburn Tea, both known for their teas and herbal infusions. Additionally, iconic traditional restaurants in Kolkata, such as Tamarind, Chittaranjan Mistanna Bhandar, Allen’s Kitchen, Peter Cat, and Lakshmi Narayan Shaw & Son, were also mentioned.

Maharashtra Ranked 76th, And Kerala Bagged 97th Spot On The List

Maharashtra ranked 76th on the Taste Atlas list. As per Taste Atlas, the must-try dishes from the state include Misal, Vada Pav, Batata Vada, Pav Bhaji and Misal Pav. Additionally, Taste Atlas recognized several top gourmet producers from Maharashtra, such as Eleftheria Cheese (Cheeses), Third Eye Distillery (Spirits), Under The Mango Tree (Bee Products), Sarda Farms (Butters), and Pride of Cows (Cheeses). For those looking to experience iconic traditional restaurants, known names include Ram Ashraya, Shree Thaker Bhojanalay, Nawab Saheb, Baba Falooda, and Café Madras, all located in Mumbai.

Kerala has made it to the list, securing the 97th position. Taste Atlas highlighted several dishes to try, including Karimeen pollichathu, Upperi, Ishtu, Putu mayam, and Nariyal chutney. Among the best gourmet producers are Paul and Mike, known for their chocolates. Iconic traditional restaurants in the region highlighted include Paragon Restaurant in Kozhikode, Hotel Bharath in Thrissur, Ariya Nivaas in Thiruvananthapuram, Paris Restaurant in Thalassery, and Mambally Royal Biscuit Factory, also in Thalassery.
