Attention residents of Bengaluru! If you rely on trains for your daily travel, we have some important news for you. Starting June 1, several popular daytime train services between Bengaluru and Mangaluru will be temporarily halted for more than five months. This is due to an essential electrification project taking place on the Sakleshpur–Subrahmanya Road route, as announced by the South Western Railway (SWR) on 17th May.
Beginning June 1, several daytime train services between Mangaluru and Bengaluru will be suspended for 154 days. This pause is required for the electrification work on the ghat section, which is vital for connecting Karnataka’s coastal and inland areas.
Mangaluru And Bengaluru Suspended List Is Out
The following trains have been canceled over specific periods: the Yeshvantpur–Mangaluru Gomateshwara Express on Saturdays is canceled from May 31 to November 1; the Mangaluru–Yeshvantpur Weekly Express on Sundays is canceled from June 1 to November 2; the Yeshvantpur–Mangaluru Tri-weekly Express on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays is canceled from June 1 to August 30; the Mangaluru–Yeshvantpur Tri-weekly Express on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays is canceled from June 2 to August 31; the Yeshvantpur–Karwar Tri-weekly Express on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays is canceled from June 2 to October 31; and the Karwar–Yeshvantpur Tri-weekly Express on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays is canceled from June 3 to November 1.

These routes are popular among commuters, tourists, and office workers traveling between the coast and Karnataka’s capital. The sudden and extended train cancellations have raised concerns among passengers, travel associations, and various community groups. Many are disappointed, feeling that the announcement lacked proper consultation and coordination.
The South Western Railway (SWR) insists that the electrification of the Sakleshpur–Subrahmanya section is crucial for improving rail services in the future.
