Announcement Of The NEOM Stadium In Saudi Arabia: Real Or Fake?

The futuristic Sky Stadium, or NEOM Stadium as officially referred to, was announced by the official NEOM handle on X (formerly Twitter) in December 2024. The social media handle officially announced plans to build this stadium and shared four rendered images of what it would look like once completed.

Another clip recently went viral, showing a stadium perched atop a skyscraper in what looks like an official design leak. While social media users quickly drew conclusions and considered it to be the official reveal, the viral clip is nothing but an AI-generated video. It has not been created or circulated by any official or verified Saudi Arabia agency. The clip is a digitally produced content that is doing the rounds of social media, and many social media handles, including that of Indian business tycoon Sanjiv Goenka, have shared it as well.

The architectural marvel will be standing at a height of 350 meters above ground level. It will also be integrated into The Line, Saudi Arabia’s urban ‘linear city’ megaproject.

Saudi Arabia has officially raised a bid for hosting the 2034 FIFA World Cup. The design of the NEOM ‘Sky Stadium’ will be fully enclosed within The Line and construction is expected to begin in 2027.

While the finishing timeline is expected to be by 2032, two years before the 2034 FIFA World Cup, construction challenges might affect the 2032 deadline. It is expected to host various FIFA World Cup matches, including group stage, Round of 32, Round of 16, as well as the quarter-finals.

The ambitious Sky Stadium will reportedly have a seating capacity of about 46,010 and have 800 VIP and 100 VVIP seats. The stadium is also expected to have 1,570 media tribune seats, 4,000 hospitality seats, and 1,200 sky box seats.
