Punjab Imposes Ban On Meat, Liquor & Tobacco In Three New Holy Cities

Punjab

India is celebrated for its rich culture and heritage, featuring some of the most prominent temples globally. Among these is the Golden Temple located in Amritsar, Punjab. And now, when it comes to Punjab, the Punjab Assembly has taken a significant step by banning the sale and consumption of alcohol, meat, tobacco, and other intoxicants in three areas of the state, which they have collectively designated as holy. The government has officially recognized Anandpur Sahib in the Rupnagar district, Talwandi Sabo in Bathinda, and the region surrounding the Golden Temple in Amritsar as sacred cities.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann introduced this resolution during a special session of the Punjab Assembly, which was held in Anandpur Sahib to honor the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur. Notably, this marks the first time that a Vidhan Sabha meeting has taken place outside the capital of Punjab to pay tribute to Guru Tegh Bahadur.
