This terminal was initially inaugurated by the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, marking the start of cruise operations from the facility. Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally inaugurated the terminal on September 20, 2025.

International Cruise Terminal Infrastructure
Mumbai International Cruise Terminal (MICT) is India’s largest and most advanced cruise facility, developed under the government’s Cruise Bharat Mission to position India as a global cruise tourism hub.
The terminal spans 415,000 square feet, built for INR 556 crore, making it the largest cruise terminal in India. It is a four-level structure (G+3) with a sprawling operational area of approximately 207,000 square feet dedicated to passenger processing.
Its design incorporates elements inspired by the maritime heritage of Mumbai, with wave-like ceiling patterns, rose-gold finishes, and minimalist interiors meant to evoke the ocean environment. The use of glass-paneled walls provides stunning sea views, while vibrant waiting areas with mood lighting create a welcoming ambiance.
International Cruise Terminal Facilities
The Mumbai International Cruise Terminal (MICT) offers state-of-the-art facilities designed to provide a world-class experience to passengers and support smooth cruise operations.
MICT is equipped with 72 immigration and check-in counters to ensure swift and efficient passenger processing. These counters are spread across the ground and first floors. The upper floors are reserved for commercial activities such as shopping and dining, making the terminal a recreational space for the public as well.
Parking facilities capable of accommodating over 300 vehicles add to the convenience for travelers and visitors.
International Cruise Terminal Operational Capacity
It is designed to accommodate up to one million passengers annually and can berth five cruise ships simultaneously. This allows efficient handling even during peak periods.
By 2030, the terminal is expected to handle about 900 cruise calls annually, including vessels carrying up to 5,000 passengers each. The first ship to dock at MICT is the Cordelia Empress. It will start cruises to popular destinations like Goa and Lakshadweep from Mumbai. This will help in positioning the city as a premier cruise hub.
This initiative aims to boost domestic and international cruise tourism, generate significant economic opportunities, and reduce India’s dependence on foreign maritime hubs.
