Two-Phase Expansion Plans
The NMRC will expand its Noida Metro Aqua Line towards Greater Noida West, adding 11 new stations over 17.4 km. Currently, the Noida Metro Aqua Line spans 29.7 km from Noida Sector-51 in Noida to the depot station in Greater Noida.
This expansion project will take place in two phases. The first phase will involve the Aqua Line getting extended from Sector-51 to Sector-2, following which the second phase will expand it further from Greater Sector-2 to Greater Sector-5. This expansion will increase connectivity between these sectors of Noida and Greater Noida and connect them to the more commercial hubs of the city.
Proposed Stations Over The Expanded Noida Metro Aqua Line
The expanded Aqua Line will have 11 stations over a length of 17.4 km. Of these, 3 stations will be located in Noida over 3.3 km, whereas the remaining 8 stations will be located over the remaining 14.1 km in Greater Noida. Here are the proposed stations that the project has finalized:
Sector-51, Sector-70, Sector-122, Sector-123, Sector-61 ,Greater Sector-4, Ecotech-12, Greater Sector-2, Greater Sector-3, Greater Sector-10, Greater Sector-12, Knowledge Park-5.
Project Costs And Funding
NMRC will have to first get the project approved from the Public Investment Board (PIB). Once PIB approves the project, NMRC will begin construction within three months, with civil works targeted for completion by December 2026.
The funding plan for the project has also been finalized, with the Central Government and Government of Uttar Pradesh each contributing 12.97 per cent to the project. The National Capital Region Planning Board will contribute the most with 44.98%. Greater Noida Authority will contribute 10.04% whereas Noida Authority contributes about 5%.
The estimated cost of construction of this expansion project is said to be around INR 2,991 crore. Of this, about 33% of the financial costs will be borne by Noida while the remaining 67% will be borne by Greater Noida.
With preparations underway, the expanded Noida Metro Aqua Line will significantly increase connectivity within Noida and Greater Noida. The metro line is estimated to carry 1.23 lakh passengers daily, with ridership estimated to increase gradually. The expansion will enhance last-mile connectivity and help connect residential, commercial, and institutional hubs across Noida Extension.
