Noida International Airport (NIA), which will link the Greater Delhi area to Western Uttar Pradesh and other cities in India and beyond, has officially received its aerodrome license from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). This is an important step toward starting commercial flights. The license confirms that the airport meets all necessary safety and operational standards set by the DGCA. The airport is being built in four phases and will also include a cargo terminal. Read on for more information.
The recent approval marks an important step forward, allowing for the commencement of domestic passenger and cargo flights within 45 days, as highlighted by Shailendra Bhatia, the project’s nodal officer.
This development follows the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) granting final security clearance for both domestic and international cargo operations. With the aerodrome license secured, the Noida International Airport (NIA) team is collaborating closely with the necessary authorities to finalize the remaining regulatory approvals. Currently, the airport’s Aerodrome Security Programme (ASP) is under BCAS review, and approval is anticipated soon. Following this, NIA will work with all stakeholders to organize the official launch and begin commercial operations.
First Phase Of Noida International Airport Will Accommodate 12 Million Passengers Annually
All major infrastructure needed for the airport’s functioning is complete, and crucial contracts have been awarded for various services, including ground handling, catering, fuel supply, and retail operations. The Airports Authority of India has also set up communications and navigation systems.
Airlines, including IndiGo, Akasa Air, and Air India Express, have confirmed their intent to operate from Noida International Airport, with ongoing negotiations with other domestic and international carriers.
Noida International Airport is strategically linked to the six-lane Yamuna Expressway, ensuring quick access to Noida, Greater Noida, Delhi, Gurugram, and major cities of western Uttar Pradesh.
The airport will be opened in stages, starting with its first phase, which includes one runway and one terminal, designed to accommodate 12 million passengers each year. Once the fourth phase is completed, the airport will be capable of handling 70 million passengers annually, positioning it as a key hub for the region.
