As 2025 begins, if you’re a globetrotter already planning your summer and other vacations, there’s an important travel update you need to know. Before you pack your bags, make sure you’re aware of some important information regarding your luggage. The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) have issued new guidelines and rules for hand baggage. This move is to reduce air congestion and speed up travel checks. These baggage size rules will come into effect from 2nd May 2025. What are these new rules, and what should you know? One Piece Hand Baggage Per Passenger

According to the new rules by BCAS and CISF, one passenger will be allowed only one piece of hand baggage per flight. Applicable to both domestic and international flights, passengers must check in the extra luggage in case they have more than one bag.

Note Down These Dimensions And Weight Limitations

The below-mentioned dimensions are permissible according to the new baggage size rules. Make sure you note them down to avoid any last-minute inconvenience.

  • Height: 55 cm (21.6 inches)
  • Length: 40 cm (15.7 inches)
  • Width: 20 cm (7.8 inches)

Also, here are the weight limitations for the baggage depending on the class of your travel:

  • Economy/Premium Economy: 7 kg
  • Business/First Class: 10 kg

Don’t worry if you have booked your flight before May 2, 2025. There will be exemptions for weight restrictions, as stated below:

  • Economy class passengers can carry up to 8 kg of luggage.
  • Premium economy class passengers are permitted to carry up to 10 kg of luggage.
  • First-class and business-class passengers can carry luggage weighing up to 12 kg.

Passengers who book their tickets after 2nd May 2025 must adhere to the new luggage rules.
