If you commute daily via public transport and have been using the Aqua Line 3 for work, there’s some exciting news. Mumbai Metro Line 3 has recently unveiled the first look at the newly constructed Dharavi Metro Station, which was built using the cut-and-cover technique along the Mithi River. The metro line shared exclusive photos of the station on X, previously known as Twitter, as part of the Aqua Line project. This station has overcome multiple obstacles, including land acquisition issues, traffic reroutes, and the diversion of various utilities during its construction.
The released images showcase the station’s modern features, including its elevator, corridors, and ticket-checking zone, reflecting the advanced infrastructure of this important metro stop. Dharavi station is necessary in the 33.5 km Mumbai Metro Line 3 (Aqua Line), which connects major areas like Cuffe Parade, BKC, and Aarey JVLR.

At present, the underground segment of Metro Line 3 is progressing as the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) conducts final safety inspections for the 9.77 km stretch between Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and Worli’s Acharya Atre Chowk. If things go as planned, this section could be operational by next week. The completion of the final stretch to Cuffe Parade is anticipated by July 2025.
What To Know About The Aqua Line 3
Currently, the Metro line from Aarey JVLR to the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) is in operation, with ticket prices ranging from INR 10 to INR 50 for a one-way journey. This initial segment covers a distance of 12.69 kilometers and was inaugurated in October 2024. It includes stations such as BKC, Bandra Colony, Santacruz, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) Terminal 1, Sahar Road, CSMIA Terminal 2, Marol Naka, Andheri, SEEPZ, and Aarey Colony JVLR, with the Aarey Colony being the only above-ground station.
The Dharavi Station is also ready to be used, but it is part of the second phase of the Aqua Line 3 project. This phase will connect BKC to Worli and will include stations like Dharavi, Shitaladevi Temple, Dadar, Siddhivinayak Temple, Worli, and Acharya Atre Chowk.
The third phase will link Worli to Cuffe Parade, featuring stations such as the Science Museum, Mahalaxmi, Mumbai Central, and others. Ultimately, the Metro-3 line will have 27 stations, with 26 of them being underground.
