If you rely on public transportation for your daily commute in Mumbai, especially the Mumbai Metro, you’re likely familiar with the connectivity issues at the Aqua Line Stations of Line 3. The Jio network often experiences no signal zones, and other providers also struggle with reception. This can be quite inconvenient, as it prevents the use of UPI for transactions and makes it difficult to stay connected during emergencies. However, there’s good news for commuters: the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has announced the introduction of free Wi-Fi at the concourse level of all operational Aqua Line stations, providing much-needed relief for travelers.
Mumbai Metro Line 3 recently announced this initiative via its official X account. This aims at enhancing the convenience of commuters by addressing mobile network connectivity issues at its stations. This development will enable passengers to effortlessly use the MetroConnect3 mobile app, Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs), Ticket Office Machines (TOMs), and other services that support UPI transactions without experiencing disruptions.

The Aqua Line, which has partially opened several stations to the public, stretches from Colaba to SEEPZ and has 27 stations for 33.5 kilometers, with 26 of those stations located underground. While this metro line has received accolades for its modern infrastructure and its potential to alleviate traffic woes in Mumbai, the previous lack of mobile service coverage had caused considerable dissatisfaction among commuters.
Key Things To Know About Mumbai Metro Line 3
The Mumbai Metro Line 3 is a significant project designed to enhance transportation in Mumbai. This 33.5 km corridor stretches from Colaba to Bandra and SEEPZ, intending to ease traffic congestion in Greater Mumbai.
MML-3 incorporates modern technologies during construction to protect surrounding buildings. To prevent unauthorized access to the tracks, stations will feature Platform Screen Doors, while automatic fare collection machines will enable contactless ticketing.
The Aqua line’s opening is being carried out in three distinct phases. The first phase, which stretches 12.69 kilometers from Aarey to the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), opened in October 2024. Ticket prices for one-way rides range from ₹10 to ₹50. Some stations along this route include BKC, Bandra Colony, Santacruz, and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), with Aarey Colony being the only station located above ground.
In late April 2025, the second phase was inaugurated, extending the line from BKC to Worli. This section features several key stations, including Dharavi, Shitaladevi Temple, Dadar, Siddhivinayak Temple, Worli, and Acharya Atre Chowk.
And the final phase, once open, will connect Worli to Cuffe Parade and will include stations like the Science Museum, Mahalaxmi, and Mumbai Central, among others. When fully completed, the Aqua line will consist of 27 stations, with 26 of them built underground.
