Mumbai’s local trains, the city’s lifeline, are about to get cooler- literally! The Maharashtra government has announced plans to convert all local trains into fully air-conditioned (AC) models. This move aims to offer relief from the sweltering heat and tackle overcrowding. The transition promises to modernize the rail network, enhance passenger comfort, and set a new standard for mobility in India.
Mumbai local trains transport over 7.5 million passengers daily, covering 390 kilometers across Western, Central, and Harbour lines. As part of a new plan, the Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) aims to roll out 238 AC rakes, beginning with fast corridors within the next 18 months.
