Mumbai, often referred to as the city of dreams, stands out as one of the most dynamic urban landscapes globally. Known as India’s financial hub, it offers an array of experiences from diverse cultural scenes and delectable cuisine to Bollywood and efficient public transport. Recently, this bustling metropolis achieved the title of the happiest city in Asia. Surprising? Not really! According to a 2025 TimeOut survey, Mumbai has been recognized as the happiest Asian city of 2025.
Responses from over 18,000 residents across Asia reveal which cities are sources of joy. Participants evaluated their city on a range of factors, including culture, nightlife, food, and overall quality of life, based on five key statements, such as their happiness in the city and the joy found in everyday activities.
As the results for 2025 come in, Mumbai stands out as the leader. An impressive 94 per cent of locals state that their city contributes to their happiness. Mumbai excels in nearly all happiness metrics, with 89 per cent of residents feeling happier here compared to other places, and 88 per cent noting a positive behaviour among fellow citizens. The increase in happiness is likely driven by Mumbai’s endless entertainment options, vibrant social life, and great career opportunities.

Beijing and Shanghai garnered 93 and 92 per cent happiness ratings among locals, respectively. Additionally, Chiang Mai in Thailand and Hanoi in Vietnam represent Southeast Asia, both scoring 88 per cent on happiness.
Interestingly, major global cities such as Seoul and Singapore ranked lower on the happiness scale, with Tokyo not making the top 10, where only 70 per cent of residents report happiness. For those living in these fast-paced environments, taking time to unwind in serene parks might enhance their overall well-being.
