As May and June approach, the arrival of the monsoon season is imminent, prompting necessary precautions for safe travel. And to ensure safe air travel, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai has announced that it will temporarily suspend operations on both runways for six hours on May 8, 2025. This closure, set from 11 AM to 5 PM, is part of the airport’s annual pre-monsoon maintenance efforts. The aim is to maintain runway quality and ensure safety during the anticipated heavy rainfall later in the year. Throughout this time, both the main runway 09/27 and the secondary runway 14/32 will be temporarily out of service.
Suppose you are traveling on May 8 and are concerned about how the temporary maintenance closure of Mumbai Airport’s primary and secondary runways may affect your travel. In that case, there’s no need to worry or change your plans. This closure is not anticipated to disrupt passenger travel or flight schedules. A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) was provided six months prior, giving airlines and other stakeholders enough notice to adjust their schedules accordingly.
Mumbai Airport Operations Will Resume Right After The Maintenance
Mumbai Airport’s maintenance will include surface inspections, minor runway repairs, and measures to prevent waterlogging. To keep pace with technological advancements, monitoring systems will be utilized to track progress in real time, ensuring that the work is completed on time.
Operations at Mumbai Airport are expected to resume right after the maintenance is finished. It is always best to confirm with your airline about your flight, so that you can plan your travels accordingly.
