Ladakh does it again! It is now home to the highest motorable pass in the world, known as Mig La Pass, which stands at an impressive altitude of 19,400 feet. This new road surpasses the previous Guinness World Record set at Umling La, which is 19,024 feet high. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has successfully created a road that traverses Mig La Pass, surpassing their own earlier record at Umling La. This route is part of the Likaru-Mig La-Fukche alignment, connecting the Hanle area to Fukche village near the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

The project was led by Brigadier Vishal Srivastava, and to celebrate its completion, both the Indian national flag and the BRO flag were raised at the exposed pass. This achievement highlights the determination, engineering skills, and commitment of the BRO towards nation-building.

Mig La Pass stands at an elevation of 19,400 feet, making it higher than both the South Base Camp of Mount Everest in Nepal, which is at 17,598 feet, and the North Base Camp in Tibet, located at 16,900 feet.
According to the BRO, the new road aims to enhance the lives of locals in Hanle and Fukche, who often experience long isolation during severe winter conditions. This road is also expected to facilitate year-round access, reduce travel durations, and enable the transport of essential goods.

Ladakh, known as the ‘Land of High Passes,’ is home to numerous breathtaking mountain passes.
- Khardung La Pass is one of the highest motorable passages in the world, sitting at 17,582 feet.
- Chang La Pass, located at 17,590 feet, connects Leh to Shyok Valley and features a temple honoring the saint Changla Baba.
- Baralacha La Pass sits at an elevation of 16,040 feet and links Lahaul Valley with Ladakh, marking the convergence of several mountain ranges.
- At 17,480 feet, Tanglang La Pass is another high road pass providing stunning views and thrilling experiences.
