Metro 5

In a bid to strengthen public transport in Mumbai and its surrounding regions, a meeting of the Cabinet Infrastructure Committee was convened on 22nd April at Mantralaya in Mumbai under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. During this meeting, the Chief Minister approved a substantial loan from HUDCO amounting to ₹18,130.55 crore to support the Mumbai Metro Line 5A across its first two phases, as well as to facilitate land acquisition for three significant expressway projects: Nagpur-Gondia, Bhandara-Gadchiroli, and Nagpur-Chandrapur. Additionally, an allocation of ₹1,063 crore was approved for works associated with Phase 2 of the Nashik-Tryambakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027.

When we talk about Mumbai Metro Line 5A, it will span 34.21 km and incorporate 19 stations. Phase 1 will connect Kasarvadavali to Dahisar Check Naka, while Phase 2 will extend from Dahisar Check Naka to Durgadi.

After Metro 5 Expansion, Metro 5 Line Will Have A Total 19 Stations

The new Line 5A will run from Durgadi to Kalyan and Ulhasnagar. This project is set to benefit approximately 6.9 million residents in Thane, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, and Ulhasnagar, reducing travel time by 40-50%. Chief Minister Fadnavis has emphasized the need for expedited action with the central government and relevant departments to secure the necessary approvals.

Lines 5 and 5A will work together to form a unified metro system consisting of 19 stations. A key interchange will be established at Durgadi, alongside a double-decker design that merges a flyover with the metro line between Ranjnoli Junction and Durgadi Chowk, aimed at reducing traffic congestion in Bhiwandi.

The project will connect the current Metro Line 4 (from Wadala to Kasarvadavli) with the planned Metro Line 12 (from Kalyan to Taloja) and the existing Central Railway. This will give rail access to important commercial areas, government offices, and notable places in Thane, Bhiwandi, and Kalyan.
