Leh Airport To Get New Terminal With India’s First 12°C Eco-Heating System

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Leh in April 2026 to unveil the new terminal at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport in Ladakh. PM Modi laid the foundation stone for this project in February 2019, and since then, significant work has been carried out. Read on to know more about this new terminal at Leh Airport.

In fact, during a site inspection in November 2025, the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Shri Kavinder Gupta, praised the project’s progress and the integration of modern green technologies. He noted the importance of the terminal in reflecting Ladakh’s cultural identity while maintaining high standards for passenger experience.

What To Know About The New Terminal At Leh Airport

The upcoming terminal is being designed as a modern, spacious facility. It will feature around 20 check-in counters along with centralized heating and cooling systems to ensure comfort for travelers, especially in the colder months. Once completed, the terminal is expected to manage around 1,000 passengers during arrivals and departures.

Moreover, the new terminal aims to be environmentally friendly. It will utilize a hybrid energy system that combines geothermal and solar power, which not only helps reduce carbon emissions but also aligns with sustainable infrastructure goals.

As per news reports, the construction is on track for completion by April 2026, and PM Modi is anticipated to inaugurate the terminal during his visit. This launch might also include several other key development projects in Ladakh, focusing on improving strategic and civilian needs.

These developments include upgraded roads, tunnels, and highways aimed at enhancing connectivity in the region.

Despite the ongoing construction, Leh Airport continues to operate normally, handling commercial flights without any interruptions. The new terminal is designed to enhance the travel experience for both tourists and locals visiting the beautiful region of Ladakh.
