On September 1, 2025, the Kolkata Metro set a new record for daily passenger numbers, with a total of 807,030 travelers across its five corridors, according to sources from Metro Railways reported by The Hindu. The North-South Metro (Blue Line), being the oldest, accommodated 583,894 passengers, while the East-West Metro (Green Line) saw an impressive 204,032 passengers, its highest ever.
The newly operational Yellow, Orange, and Purple Lines recorded 6,996, 5,443, and 6,665 passengers, respectively. This record footfall comes just two weeks after the Prime Minister inaugurated three essential segments on August 22: the East-West corridor (Green Line) from Howrah Maidan to Salt Lake Sector V, the Yellow Line stretch from Noapara to Jai Hind (Airport), and the Orange Line from Beleghata to Hemanta Mukhopadhyay.
The new Green Line is particularly significant as it links two major railway stations – Howrah and Sealdah, along with important business areas in Howrah, Kolkata, and Bidhannagar (Salt Lake).
