The Vande Bharat Express, India’s first semi-high-speed train, has now reached Kashmir, making train travel to the region much more accessible. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Vande Bharat Express service between Katra and Srinagar on June 6, 2025. This launch marks a significant achievement following the completion of the 272-km Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, which is designed to enhance connectivity in the area.
The Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express offers all-weather travel, reduced journey times, and modern comforts suited for the local climate, benefiting tourists, pilgrims, and residents. During the inauguration, officials introduced two Vande Bharat trains to connect Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Srinagar, with regular services set to begin on June 7, 2025.
These new trains, designed for extreme winter conditions, include features like heated windshields and insulated restrooms. The trains will run six days a week, with Tuesdays and Wednesdays set aside for maintenance.
