Indian Railways Launches A North East Tour, Here’s What You Should Know

India is amazing, and certain destinations will truly captivate you. One such place that comes to mind is Northeast India, known for its pristine beauty and home to regions like Sikkim, Meghalaya, and Assam. If you’ve always wanted to explore these areas, the Indian Railways has a great option for you. The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will start a North East Discovery train journey on April 22, 2025. This initiative aims to promote tourism, culture, and the natural heritage of the Northeastern states of India.

The Indian Railways has launched this initiative as part of the Government of India’s ‘Dekho Apna Desh’ campaign, aimed at inspiring citizens to discover the lesser-known regions of the country. If you’re excited about this adventure, you’ll be pleased to know that the entire journey spans 15 days, commencing from Safdarjung Railway Station in Delhi. This trip will take you through seven states in the Northeast, namely Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Tripura, Meghalaya, Manipur, and West Bengal.

The route will cover several key locations, including Guwahati, Sivasagar, and Furkating in Assam; Dimapur and Kohima in Nagaland; Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh; Unakoti, Agartala, and Udaipur in Tripura; along with Shillong and Cherrapunji in Meghalaya; and Imphal in Manipur. Passengers will also have the opportunity to visit attractions such as the Kamakhya Temple, Kaziranga National Park, Shillong Peak, and Loktak Lake.

India Tourism has upgraded the Bharat Gaurav Deluxe AC Tourist Train to ensure a comfortable travel experience. In terms of tour packages, it offers a range of prices starting from Rs 1,67,845 per person for AC 1 (Coupe), Rs 1,49,815 for AC 1 (Cabin), Rs 1,29,915 for AC 2 Tier, and Rs 1,16,905 for AC III, all of which are all-inclusive. These packages include train travel, hotel stays, meals, sightseeing, transport, and travel insurance.
