Indian Railways, renowned as one of the most extensive and well-connected railway systems globally, will strengthen its network significantly by introducing several new trains in the coming years. The Indian Railways has unveiled an initiative to launch 100 Amrit Bharat trains, 50 Namo Bharat trains, and 200 Vande Bharat trains, which will include options for both sleeper and chair cars over the next two to three years.
In a bid to enhance national connectivity, the Railway Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, has also announced plans to manufacture 17,500 Non-AC General and Sleeper Coaches. This initiative aims to improve rail travel accessibility for passengers while meeting the increasing demand for train services. The plan ensures a balanced distribution of coaches, maintaining a 2:3 ratio for non-AC coaches and a 1:3 ratio for AC coaches, with a particular emphasis on producing general coaches.
Furthermore, the government has allocated a substantial budget of INR 2.52 lakh crore for the modernization of Indian Railways in the 2025-26 fiscal year. This funding will support the completion of new projects worth INR 4.6 lakh crore over the next four to five years, which will include laying new railway lines, redeveloping stations, and constructing flyovers and underpasses. This ongoing focus on enhancing infrastructure aims to elevate the overall rail travel experience across the country.
