Indian Airports Enforce Mandatory Secondary Checks, Bans Visitor Entry To Terminals

Indian Airports

In light of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has implemented new security measures at airports across the country. Visitors are now prohibited from entering terminal buildings, and all flights will require mandatory Secondary Ladder Point Checking (SLPC) as part of these heightened security protocols. This decision follows a recent terror attack in Pahalgam, which has prompted a more vigilant approach to security at civil aviation venues, including airports, airstrips, airfields, air force stations, helipads, flying schools, and aviation training institutes.

According to BCAS, the need for enhanced security is crucial to prevent any potential incidents. SLPC will involve checking passengers and their hand luggage right before they board their flights, complementing the standard security checks already in place.

In addition to restricting visitor access, there will be a complete ban on selling visitor entry tickets at airports. Other security measures include ensuring that all CCTV systems are fully operational and deploying in-flight security officers on selected flights, based on prioritized assessments.

These Rules Are Mandatory For All Indian Airports

Other new protocols involve rigorous checks on Passenger Name Records (PNR), along with thorough inspections of passenger and cargo manifests. Aircraft and catering services will undergo full searches, and additional scrutiny of shipments from high-risk areas will be mandated.

As a result of these guidelines, airlines like Air India have advised travelers to arrive at airports at least three hours before their flight’s scheduled departure. This measure aims to facilitate a smoother check-in and boarding process.

IndiGo has also emphasized the need for extra time when traveling due to the new security measures in place. The airline encourages passengers to prepare for longer journeys and to accommodate the necessary security protocols during their travel.

We encourage you to stay safe and think twice before traveling unless it’s necessary. Your well-being comes first!
