If you’re planning to travel in the monsoon months of 2025, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy rainfall & flood alerts in certain states.

Delhi NCR To Receive Light Rain And Thunderstorms

IMD has predicted that the Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR), often called Delhi NCR, will have cloudy skies and light rainfall till August 8, 2025.

In the past 24 hours, i.e. between 6 and 7 August, 2025, minimum and maximum temperatures in the Delhi NCR dropped by 1 to 2°C.

While maximum temperatures were between 32 to 33°C, minimum temperatures hovered around 26 to 27°C.

Skies will mostly remain cloudy, with surface winds from the southwest reaching speeds of up to 16 kilometers per hour.

On August 7, 2025, it is expected that Delhi NCR Region will experience light rain/thundershowers. Temperatures will remain in the near-normal range, with maximum temperatures ranging from 33 to 35°C, and minimum temperatures ranging from 24 to 26°C.

Similarly, on August 8, 2025, IMD has predicted that maximum temperatures will hover around 33 to 35°C, while minimum temperatures will be in the range of 23 to 25°C.

IMD has issued advisories for residents, stating that light to moderate rainfall might occur, along with thunderstorms.

Kerala To Receive Heavy Rainfall As IMD Issues Alerts

Kerala, God’s Own Country, is also experiencing heavy rainfall. IMD has issued a red alert in the Thrissur, Ernakulam, and Idukki districts of Kerala.

It has also issued orange and yellow alerts across multiple other districts in the state. Fishermen have been warned against venturing into the sea at least till August 7, 2025. 

IMD has predicted about 11 to 20 cm of rain in places like Kottayam, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Palakkad, and Malappuram. Plus, it has predicted a 6 to 11 cm of rainfall in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode, and Wayanad.

Heavy Rain Alert In Multiple Regions In India!

IMD has predicted heavy rainfall in parts of northwest Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala in the initial days of August 2025. Additionally, the Uttarakhand flash floods are already wreaking havoc in the northern part of India.

Very heavy rainfall is also expected in the following areas:

August 7 to August 8: Bihar

August 7 to August 11: Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, and Assam.

Heavy rainfall in these areas could mean that localized flooding and waterlogging in low-lying areas could take place. Additionally, they are expected to cause traffic disruptions, road blockages, and landslides.

Strong winds and torrential rain could also damage roads, vulnerable buildings, and trees, causing more disruptions in these areas.

Farmland areas in these regions could also take a massive hit due to heavy rains and riverine flooding.

Safety Precautions For Heavy Rainfall

  • Refrain from using electrical appliances, especially those with high voltage, during lightning activity and thunder.
  • Stay indoors during adverse weather conditions, such as heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
  • Avoid taking shelter under trees, vulnerable structures, or near electricity poles during thunderstorms.
  • Secure loose objects outdoors, such as bicycles and outdoor furniture to prevent wind-related damage.
  • Avoid non-essential travel to regions experiencing heavy rainfall and even within the city/town/village you live in.
  • Keep a tab on the latest weather updates, IMD advisories, and weather-related news.
  • Keep your electronic devices fully charged and keep flashlights, emergency lights, candles, a safety buzzer, and a first-aid box handy.
