How To Spend A Day In Jamnagar, Gujarat?

Being in Gujarat, you’re never running out of options to eat and historical stories to explore. Such is Jamnagar, the fifth biggest city of Gujarat. Also known as the ‘Jewel Of Gujarat’, you’ve probably heard the name to be the birthplace of the famous cricketer Ravindra Jadeja and the Ambanis holding a pre-wedding celebration here. Spend a day of delicious food and experience everything Jamnagar has to offer with this one-day itinerary.

How To Spend A Day In Jamnagar?

1. Birdwatch At Khijadia Bird Sanctuary

Start your morning in the wetlands, spotting endangered species like the Pallas’s Fish-Eagle, Indian Skimmer, and Common Pochard (they’re not very common now). The Khijadia Wildlife Sanctuary houses over 310 bird species and has also been recognized as a Wetland of International Importance under the Ramsar Convention. It’s the perfect spot to show off your wildlife photography skills and expand your knowledge on birds, all while enjoying taking a nice stroll amongst nature.

2. Breakfast At Shikhand Samrat

Gujaratis love their Sunday breakfast. They’re all in a holiday mood and give their morning a sweet touch with jalebis and fafdas. So, follow the tradition and head to Shikhand Samrat, a sweet shop that sells one of the best jalebis in Jamnagar. You can even try the dry kachoris or other namkeen products. The best part is that you can get them packed and snack whenever you feel like!

Price: Approx INR 600 to INR 800

Address: Opposite Mandvi Tower Masjid, Central Bank Road, Jamnagar

3. Spend Time At Lakhota Fort

Situated beautifully in the middle of the Lakhota or Ranmal Lake, this small palace was built by Jan Ranmal II, the king of Navanagar. Inside the fort, you’ll get to see bastions, cannons, and turrets all belonging to the mid-19th century. These items display the military readiness of the fort in case of an attack.

The fort also houses a small museum that displays fresco murals, pottery arms, and firearms. You can take a walk around the lake and sit on one of the benches to spot some more migratory birds or just take in the scenic views.

Entry Fee: INR 10

4. Gujarati Thali At The Grand Chetna

After spending so much time walking around exploring the fort, you’re bound to be hungry again. Luckily for you, at a very close distance from the lake is The Grand Chetna, a restaurant that serves authentic Gujarati thali. You’ll get either roti or poori with 4 different vegetables, dal or kadhi rice, buttermilk, and a salad. Absolutely yum and filling!

Price: Approx INR 500

Address: Lal Bungalow Circle, Opposite District Court, Patrakar Colony, Jamnagar

5. Sunset At Rozi Port

Find a quiet spot on the port and wait for the sun to set, turning your view into a beautiful painting. Rozi Port is a great destination for a sunset and jetties, coming back after a long day of exploring. The tranquillity and the sea view make the scene all the more picturesque.

6. Visit Pirotan Island

Fair warning, this activity in Jamnagar might take you a full day to explore the island entirely, so plan your timings accordingly. Set out from the Bedi Port, but you’ll need permission from the Forest Department, the Customs Department and the Ports. Make sure you also carry food and water, as there are no shops or vendors on the island. Upon arriving, revel in the beautiful coral reefs, aquatic life like octopuses and jellyfish, and mangroves. A great way to spend time amidst nature, that’s for sure!

Summing Up

Jamnagar reflects Gujarati culture brilliantly and should be on the list of places to see when you’re touring Gujarat. Use this one-day itinerary and experience the vibrant culture, tranquil destinations, and of course, a happy stomach.
