Champhai lies in the North Eastern part of Mizoram, bordered by Myanmar in the east. As the third largest town in Mizoram, the town is located at an elevation of 1,678 meters above sea level.
It is situated in the picturesque hills of Mizoram, with the valley it is situated in famously known as the ‘Rice Bowl of Mizoram’.
You must definitely visit Lamsial Puk, a cave that offers a chilling glimpse into Mizoram’s past. Also make sure to visit the Thasiama Seno Neihna, a rugged hillock at Vaphai, 86 km from Champhai.
This is a legendary plateau deeply rooted in local lore and is known among adventure seekers and culture enthusiasts alike.
While you’re here, head to the heart of Champhai – the Keilungliah Dam. Here, you can enjoy activities like fishing, boat paddling, and just simply enjoying the dam views. It is a great destination for a day picnic in Champhai.
And of course, no trip to Champhai can be complete without visiting Mualnum. This picturesque hill looks over the ‘Rice Bowl of Mizoram’ – expansive fields of paddy rice and green slopes. This scenic spot is great for a sunrise and day picnics as well as stargazing and camping.
How To Reach Champhai?
Nearest Airport: Lengpui Airport, Aizawl (183 km). You can get cabs or self-drive to Champhai.
Nearest Railway Station: Bairabi Railway Station (261 km). You’ll have to book a cab from the station as there is no confirmed information about direct buses or similar public transport modes.
Aizawl is the closest major city to Champhai and also the capital city of Mizoram, located about 154 km away. You can find buses and shared cabs from the city that might not directly go to Champhai, but ply between routes where Champhai lies.
