The Hemkund Sahib Yatra for 2025 commenced on May 25th in Uttarakhand, attracting over 4,400 pilgrims on its opening day. This revered Sikh pilgrimage site, situated at an impressive altitude of 15,200 feet in the Chamoli district. It will remain open to pilgrims until October 10. The event was marked by a ceremonial opening shared by Impreet Singh Bakshi, a secretary for the BJP in Delhi, through a video on social media.

This serene location can only be accessed on foot, beginning from Gobind Ghat, which sits along the highway connecting Rishikesh and Badrinath.
How To Reach For Hemkund Sahib Yatra 2025
To reach Hemkund Sahib, one can choose from several options. The closest airport is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, approximately 292 kilometers away from Gobind Ghat. While flights are frequently available from Delhi, visitors will need to hire taxis to reach Gobind Ghat. The trekking journey of 19 kilometers to Hemkund Sahib begins at Gobind Ghat. The trek from Govindghat to Ghangharia spans 14 kilometers, and from Ghangharia, it’s an additional 5 kilometers to reach Hemkund Sahib.
For those preferring train travel, Rishikesh is the nearest railway station, located 273 kilometers from Gobind Ghat. Regular trains operate to Rishikesh from many key cities in India. From the railway station, taxis are available to take pilgrims to Gobind Ghat.
For road travelers, Gobind Ghat is well-connected via motorable routes from various places in Uttarakhand. Buses and taxis are available from major towns such as Haridwar and Rishikesh. This makes it relatively easy for pilgrims to reach their destination.
For those who need assistance, ponies and porters can be hired. Upon reaching the gurdwara, visitors will find a peaceful space for worship and accommodation, along with a community kitchen that offers free meals for all.
